BALLS 2003

Three of Woody’s M1600s

(see: Bad Wiring)

“O”!   So that’s a Skid-Mark!

(see: Jim Rosson)

William Inman was out working on a single motor altitude record attempt, as usual.  This time he was going for “K”.  Here is Video, and in these stills you can see that it seemed to come out of the tower straight, it kicked left, then straightened out.  Afterward the smoke trail hinted at a mid-level wind-sheer.

Jim Wilkerson did his Level 3 with a nicely painted 7.5” rocket (Video Here) he called

Hell Bent for Leather

I cut several stills out of the video:

121314151617 - 18

Early afternoon Friday & people were still arriving (video), and odd things like the Hyper Snitch were starting to fly (video).

I took some snapshots of a few rockets I got no information on: 1920 - 21

Tony Alcocer (above) preps & launches Phantom 109 (video).  Then of course recovers it in one piece with his usual good spirited way (video).

Tom Rouse brought a speed burner of his own to the game.  If you miss it in the video, here is a still shot.

Of course no BALLS launch would be complete without the occasional carnage video or two, or three or four.

And then there are the rockets that were slow to light.  Countdown complete, now hold the button!  I said, hold the button!

But alas, even that last one took to the sky in due time.

Besides rockets, there were other interesting vehicles to video, and sometimes,

odd cargo!

Now, if you have never seen an “O”3500 Skidmark,

then check out this treat from Jim Rosson:

Pick a thumb view & click on it, or go straight to the video clip.

On the Other hand, this “O4500 motor by

Woody Wood,

was far more difficult to video because it just left!

Show the amazing dust cloud that it created.

Ever wonder why people call this propellant Ever Clear?  Well look at the still shot and video of this Red & Grey rocket to see why.  Unfortunately, the rocket arced over and came back in fine ballistic fashion.  L

This Red & Orange rocket flew nicely on an N3200 + 3 air started K900s.

Nothing Flies Like a Deer

…so they tell me.

Well what little I caught on video doesn’t suggest any flaws with that name.

Tony Alcocer is the author of the propellant called Wimpy Red, seen here

powering  Speedy Gonzales who leaves the video guy (me) in the dust.

It’s not unusual to see Tony offering advice to newby EX’ers

Redhead with an Attitude

Phantom 109

This Black Rocket w/ Silver Nose cone:

gave an excellent demonstration of the straight up (video), followed by the 3 phases of a proper return (video).
