Old Glory II
A Dynacom SAAB Kit-Bash
(Just A ‘For Fun’ Project)
Background
After
building & flying my SAAB kit for L3 Certification, and flying one more
time as is, that was enough. It is just
a basic 4-fin single motor, single deployment rocket. Ok it has eight fins, but that doesn’t get my blood pumping so it
was just going to sit in the garage unless I did something cool with it. I had batted the idea around with Tony about
up-sizing a new version of an old favorite of mine, Old
Glory, so this was as good an excuse as any to do it. Tony scrounged up a 5” mandrel and we laid
up a length of 5” tubing, and when I wasn’t looking Tony laid up a length of 5”
coupler tube. That gave me everything I
needed to start building an extension to the SAAB.

prized payload.

And of course, I painted the rocket in
red white & blue, with stars & stripes.
